In this month's English Fiction Book Club, we will discuss The God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy. The 1997 novel, set in the Indian state of Kerala, is a story of family drama and forbidden love set against the backdrop of political upheaval. Copies of the book will be available at the User Services Desk.

On the 5 June 2017, Qatar and its citizens woke up to an economic and political blockade from neighboring countries. What has changed after two years of blockade? The Library and Georgetown University in Qatar invite you to a lecture presented by Professor Alexis Antoniades, Chair of International Economics, on the impact the blockade had on Qatar’s economy and review the policy responses that followed.

The Library invites you to a lecture by Dr. Shafeeq Ghabra, professor of political science at Kuwait University, about his book The Arab Revolutions. Dr. Ghabra will discuss the dimensions and themes of the 2011 revolutions in the Arab world and their effects on the political systems in the region. He will discuss the effect of the revolutions on regional conflicts and the siege of Qatar, in addition to the many human dimensions in the Arab world. He will also address the problems of marginalization and unemployment prevalent in a large part of the Arab world.

IYPT2019 Brief: - 1869 is considered as the year of discovery of the Periodic System by the Russian scientist, Dmitri Mendeleev. The IYPT 2019 also commemorates the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. The United Nations General Assembly during its 74th Plenary Meeting proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019) and adopted by the UNESCO General Conference at its 39th Session (39 C/decision 60). To recognize the importance of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements among school students, as one of the most important and influential achievements in modern science, Science India Forum-Qatar (SIFQ), is celebrating IYPT 2019 in collaboration with QF and TAMUQ for QF Schools & Indian Schools, as an International Event. Event mainly include- Road Show by TAMUQ, Inter School Competition on Periodic Table, Quiz, Address by Eminent Scholars on Periodic Table and Speeches by Guests of Honour.
