Scripts From Qatar’s History

Historical scripts are one of the most significant forms of evidence for understanding Qatar history. This lecture will highlight personal letters and signatures from famous Qatari historical figures, which reflect the country’s social and economic life. The lecture will also discuss Mus'haf Al Zubara, one of the oldest examples of calligraphic writing that has been found in Qatar.

We are pleased to host Faisal Al Nuammi, Director of the Antiquities Department at Qatar Museums, to talk about archaeological discoveries in Qatar and what they can tell about Qatar’s past. He will also address the challenges of those discoveries and what shaped Qatar as we know it today. 
JLF Doha

The Jaipur Literature Festival, often called “the greatest literary show on Earth,” is coming to Doha. For the first time in the region, the Library will host JLF Doha, a celebration of literature and the power of dialogue from 12 – 14 December 2019. JLF Doha is the country’s first international literature festival of its kind, which will recreate the magnificent spirit of Jaipur’s annual literary carnival in Doha.

Qatar and the British Indian Empire: Talk and Tour of the "Qatar, India & the Gulf" Exhibition

Qatar and parts of the Indian subcontinent have belonged to the same empires on six occasions since 120 BCE. In this talk, Dr. James Onley, the Library's Director of Historical Research and Partnerships, tells the fascinating yet mostly forgotten story of Qatar and the British Indian Empire from 1916 to 1947. This will be followed by a guided tour of the "Qatar, India & the Gulf" exhibition at the Library.

Qatar Art Exhibition for Young Adults

We invite all talented young adult artists to showcase their appreciation for Qatari culture through painting and other art forms. This two-hour session will give you the opportunity to work alongside several members of Qatar’s arts community. The Library will display some of the participants’ artworks.
