This online exhibition of 50 carefully selected items offers insights into the history of the Kaaba, the stages of its construction, its architectural features and adornment, and its religious and spiritual significance.

This display of 18 unique calligraphic works from the Heritage Collection explores a range of styles, from the first uses of Kufic script, Thuluth, Maghribi, Sudani script and many more. It includes one of the earliest surviving fragments of the Qur'an on parchment, a rare example of Andalusian calligraphic work, tools used by calligraphers, and objects from around the world demonstrating the creativity and diversity of this Islamic art form.

In its first manifestations, from the camera obscura to the daguerreotype, photography seemed to be more of a scientific tool than a form of artistic expression, as it is perceived today. Many of the earliest photographers were scientists, chemists, engineers and archaeologists, who did not even consider themselves artists. Instead, they were interested in the concepts of objectivity, documentary and surveying.

To celebrate the Qatar-United States Year of Culture 2021, Qatar National Library will host the exhibition “Arab Immigrants in the US: Pursuing the American Dream", which deals with the history of Arab immigrants to the US in several different areas. In this panel discussion, which is held on the sidelines of the Exhibition, our speakers will highlight several important contexts of Arab-American history: history and characteristics of immigration, Arab and American culture and integration between them, and Arab-American literature and its importance in reflecting the actual conditions of Arab society in the U.S.
